Life with braces

Orthodontic treatment has many benefits – renewed self-confidence, greater oral hygiene – and there are very few changes you need to make along the way to enjoy the results. However, to ensure the success of your orthodontic treatment journey, we do advise you consider the following top tips for living with braces.

1. Keep up your oral hygiene routine

This is really important! Having a regular brushing and flossing routine is important for the health of your teeth, and even more so when you’re wearing an orthodontic appliance. Brush and floss your teeth after every meal and, if you’re wearing aligners, remove these and clean them daily too.

Our team are passionate about orthodontics and we have worked in the industry for many years. We will advise you on the best way to get the orthodontic results you are after, so please follow our advice and let us know if you have any questions along the way.

3. Avoid hard and sticky foods

Even with an orthodontic appliance you can eat most of your favourite foods, but there are a few we recommend you avoid. Hard pizza crusts for example could damage your appliance, as will hard and sticky lollies. Cut up apples and carrots and eat them in small pieces just to be sure no damage occurs to your braces.

4. Eat soft foods after appointments

After your check-up appointments when your appliances may have been changed or tightened, your teeth will feel a little tender. This is the time to eat soft foods for a few days, such as yoghurt, porridge, scrambled egg and mashed potato.

5. Attend your appointments

Please make sure you attend all your appointments with us to ensure we keep your treatment on track. If at any stage your appliance becomes broken or damaged let us know and we will book you in for an emergency appointment if required.
